Tour Information
Motorbiking in between the 8.000m giants and through the world's deepest gorge, (Kali Gandaki Gorge) and a 30 Km Challenging "Off Road Experience" between Kalopani and Tatopani
This will be the first time that we will take the road into the high valley of Jomsom to "Lower Mustang" and to the holy temple city of Muktinath in the higher regions, and move on "behind the Annapurna". Motorbiking in between the 8.000m giants and through the world's deepest gorge, "Kali Gandaki".
Hubert has done the scouting for this Nepal motorcycle road trip in 2011, and the first Nepal motorbike tour to Mustang and Muktinath in October 2012 was a huge success.

Day 1 - Departure from your nearest international airport
-
Day 2 - Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal - 0 Km
Arrival in Kathmandu forenoon or early afternoon. You will be expected by our man at the airport wearing our "Classic Bike Adventures"-placard. By "luxury coach" you will be transferred to the hotel from Kathmandu Airport.
There is enough time to relax at the resort, while our tour guide will change some money for you. Followed by a short "meet and brief". Afterwards when we have got to know each other we will leave for our "Welcome Dinner" with local speciality dishes. -
Day 3 – First mountain stage from Kathmandu Valley up to Daman, continuing to Chitwan National Park (total distance 220 km)
Today is the first riding day of our Mustang and Muktinath Nepal Motorbike Tour. In the morning after breakfast you'll get to know your Enfields and there will be plenty of time to do some practice rounds on the quiet parking lot in front of the resort. One has to get used to riding your Enfield Bullet motorcycle on the left side of the road.
Then you will pass your "initiation" climbing up a quiet mountain road which will lead us into the remote mountainous region of the foothills of the Himalayas. The "Rajpath Mountain Road" takes us high up to Daman. We will climb up to the ca. 2.600m "Kulekhani-Pass" on one of the prettiest mountain roads in Nepal, the "Rajpath-Highway". Leaving Daman we will be descending 2.000 m until we reach Hetauda, from where we take the Mahendra Highway into the tropical plain of Thera, Here everything will feel decidedly "Indian" just as one would expect the Indian plains to look like.In Sauhara, situated next to the Royal Chitwan National Parks, we will stay at the elegant Royal Park Hotel. Being a German-Nepali joint venture project it is the best jungle-lodge in Sauhara.
-
Day 4 - Daman - Chitwan National Park / 0 km
In the morning we take an elephant ride and watch wild rhinoceroses. There will be an opportunity for a canoe trip to the crocodile banks followed by the sunset over the river. Later followed by dinner and a slide show about Nepal's wildlife. Before tugging in we'll enjoy a night cap at the romantic camp fire.
-
Day 5 – Chitwan National Park - Bandipur
Into the Himalayas we ride... On our Enfield Bullet Motorcycles
Many curves await us, plus narrow gorges but we also encounter heavy traffic. This is one of the main transport roads from India to Nepal. Just before we reach Bandipur in the late afternoon we have a spectacular view at the majestic peaks of the Himalayas, weather permitting. We take an evening stroll through the "museum village" Bandipur where we also spend the night at the topmost place. -
Day 6 – Bandipur - via Nuwakote to Pokhara / 90 km
This ca. 90 km-road trip leads us on a newly built, less travelled mountain road along the Western edge of the Annapurna-massif to Baglung; most breath taking vistas and fascinating landscapes are to be expected.. After that we pass Nuwakot (the paragliding starting point above Lake Phewa) and reach Pokhara.
In the afternoon there will be time to relax at Lake Phewa and/or take a rental rowboat and enjoy the spectacular view of the Annapurna, also you can take a trip to a Tibetan refugee camp combined with a visit of a Buddhist monastery. We will stay for the night at a simple but ideally located lakeside hotel featuring a good restaurant (German management) - In the evening there is a visit to a local pub with live music! -
Day 7 – Pokhara - Tatopani / 100 km
We will be leaving Pokhara on our motorbikes towards Beni - 80 km on a perfectly good road, also serviced by regular buses going to Beni. But after that the road from Beni to Tatopani is quite a different story. That is to say, as long as there is no rainfall we have no problems - but when it rains it will be a mud-fest. At least it is all pretty much level, so no going up hill. But it is always an adventurous ride, that's for sure. In the evening we visit the hot springs; overnight stay at "Daulagiri Guest House".
-
Day 8 – Tatopani - Tukusche / 35 Km
Tatopani - Ghasa 13 km
This is a landslide area and the riding motorcycles can be quite demanding, especially 5 km before reaching Ghasa, but when the rain has gone so have the mudslides. There are always heavy duty road excavators on site to keep traffic flowing. The last 5 km are quite steep with big boulders obstructing the passage, also sand. But hey, when the going get's tough - the tough get going…...we had a lot of fun here on our last motorbike tour!
Ghasa - Kalapani 14 km
This stretch of road has the steepest passages, on your right you will find a precipice. Just before reaching Kobang we regain our sure footing. A close-up look at the Annapurna, one of the most difficult 8.000 m peaks in the world.
Kobang - Tukusche 8 km - Motorcycle Ride between Two Icy 8000mts Peaks
Now we will be flanked by two 8.000m peaks and ride our motorcycles right through the middle. A river crossing over a wide suspension bridge, and again spectacular photo ops featuring the icy peaks of giants, there will be enough time to take pictures but we want to reach our day's destination, the "High Plain Inn" under Dutch ownership and management . One has the chance to take a small hike with a super view of the Dhaulagiri. Hotel Info -
Day 9 – Tukusche - Muktinath : Total trip 31 km
Tukusche - Jomsom 12 km
Jomsom - Muktinath 19 km - Spectacular view at the Dhaulagiri
There will be an obstacle free motorcycle ride from Tukusche to Jomsom. No steep inclines or missing tarmac, we encounter some small river crossings though. Hard to believe, but there is a small airport in Jomsom. It's quite impressive to watch the small planes shooting down through the rock walls. Jomsom is the biggest town in Mustang and has plenty of cafes and hotels. We leave Jomsom behind and find our way through the meandering rivulets. The surrounding becomes sparse and more menacing. We are no longer in the deepest gorge of the world but we cruising on top of the highest mountain range in the world. The scenery gets more and more breath taking.
Overnight stay in Muktinath at the "Serene Guest House". You will have the chance to visit the famous temple in Muktinath dedicated to Vishnu. It lies a 15min walk from the guest house from where you have a spectacular view at the Dhaulagiri and the other icy giants surrounding us. It is a place where one would like to spend more time ... and a spectacular part of our Mustang and Muktinath Motorbike Tour -
Day 10 – Muktinath - Kalopani / 42 km
We drive back the same route we came with plenty of time to enjoy the countryside. Overnight stay at the "Kalapani Guest House", a spacious guest house with a newly built annex. You will enjoy the almost luxurious respite, we'll grab some burgers facing two 8.000 m peaks. What a sight!
-
Day 11 – Kalopani - Tatopani / 30 km - The Challenging "Off Road Experience"
This time we will undertake the challenging "off road experience" the other way round. Hard to believe we did this stretch already, everything looks totally different from this side. Again the motorcycle ride will be quite demanding and will put a lot of strain on man and machine.
When we reach Tapopani, which translates to "hot waters" our weary bones will welcome exactly those. We will again stay at the "Daulagiri Guest House" . Home sweet home! -
Day 12 – Tatopani - Begnas Lake / 130 km
One realizes that we passed through the deepest gorge in the world, the cool climate of the mountains changes into the heat of the jungle which seems to swallow us up. The Himalayas is disappearing into the distance. Just before reaching Begnas Lake you're in for a treat, pure bike rider's delight!
We will reach Begnas Lake resort late in the afternoon and we have time for a swim or a relaxing Ayurveda massage followed by a tasty BBQ dinner. -
Day 13 – Begnas Lake - Mugling / 120 km
After a late breakfast and a jump into the lake we enjoy some easy "highway cruising" on our Bullet motorcycles to reach the "Riverspring Resort" - time for a pool party.
-
Day 14 – Mugling - Kathmandu - total distance 120 km.
We take the "Prithvi Rajmarg" - highway, passing Naubise entering the valley of Kathmandu where the heavy traffic of the Kathmandu ring road awaits us. A careful eye and defensive riding is a must on this short stretch of chaotic main road until we finally reach the old part of town with it's busy but smaller side streets ending at the "Nirvana Garden" Hotel in the Thamel district. In the evening we will have dinner together and check out a pub with live music.
-
Day 15 – Kathmandu - city tour, shopping, relaxing / No Motorbikes - 0 Km.
Today is the last day of our Nepal Mustang Motorcycle Tour. We will visit the bazar quarter with its narrow lanes in the old part of Kathmandu, a fascinating mixture of shops, stalls and pretty temples. Afterwards we can visit the sister town Laltitpur (also known as Pattan), famous for its temple district and an interesting museum. Another site to see: Swayambhunath, the famous monkey temple high above the main town, situated on a hill. In the evening we will enjoy our farewell dinner together in the garden of the "Nirvana Resort", last time to savour true Nepali cuisine before its back to basics, culinary wise…
